Which scanner reads ABS and airbag codes on my car?
The BlueDriver Pro ($94.94) lists ABS and airbag reading on more makes than any other scanner we checked: 11 of 12. Some makes have a model-year limit, so pick yours below. Most other makers give only a brand count, so you have to check your car in their lookup tool.*1, 2 The Foxwell NT604 Elite and Innova 5610 also read ABS and airbag codes. See how they compare.

| Scanner | Price | Type | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foxwell NT604 Elite Handheld, like the AD500 | $135.95 | Handheld | Foxwell says it reads engine, transmission, ABS and airbags "on major American, Asian and European makes." It costs $24.04 less than the TOPDON AD500, which reads the same four systems and also lists resets like oil and tire pressure. Foxwell's page mentions an oil light reset, but its Amazon listing says it "does NOT support service functions such as oil reset."*3, 4 |
| Innova 5610 For doing the repair yourself | $349.99 | Handheld | Innova says it reads ABS, airbag, engine and transmission codes, and it adds two-way tests and resets. It costs $255.05 more than the BlueDriver Pro. Get it if you'll do the repair yourself, not just read the code. See is the Innova 5610 worth it?*5 |
Pick your make
Each card shows exactly what BlueDriver's own page says for that make, plus any other scanner whose maker lists it. BlueDriver also notes that "Enhanced Diagnostics may not yet be offered on your vehicle," so check your exact model in its vehicle checker.*1
BlueDriver on a Ford
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "Ford Including Ford, Lincoln, & Mercury." Also listed by their maker for this make: the OBDLink MX+ ($139.95), which includes it free, and the OBDLink CX ($79.95), which sells it as a paid add-on; the OBDLink EX ($69.95), which works with the FORScan program on a Windows PC.*1, 6, 7
BlueDriver on a GM
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "GM Including Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick, Saturn, Pontiac, etc."*1
BlueDriver on a Honda
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "Honda (sold in North America) Including Honda & Acura (2003 models & newer)" That means 2003 and newer models only.*1
BlueDriver on a Hyundai/Kia
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "Hyundai Including Hyundai & Kia (2011 models & newer)" That means 2011 and newer models only. Its App Store text says 2012 and newer, so a 2011 model may not work.*1
BlueDriver on a VW/Audi
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "Volkswagen (sold in North America) Including VW, Audi, Lamborghini & Bentley"*1
BlueDriver on a BMW
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "BMW (sold in North America) including BMW & Mini (2005 models & newer)" That means 2005 and newer models only.*1
BlueDriver on a Mercedes
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "Mercedes Including Mercedes & Smart (2005 models & newer)" That means 2005 and newer models only.*1
BlueDriver on a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram
BlueDriver's list of makes with ABS and airbag reading says: "Chrysler Including Ford, Lincoln, & Mercury." That line repeats the Ford text, an error on BlueDriver's own page. So we don't count it. Check your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram in BlueDriver's vehicle checker before you buy. On 2018 and newer models, clearing codes needs a tool registered with AutoAuth. BlueDriver's page doesn't mention it.*1, 8

Only makers' own statements. A dash means the maker doesn't say, not that the scanner can't. For 7 of the 12 makes, BlueDriver is the only maker that names it.

- a BlueDriver's Chrysler line reads "Chrysler Including Ford, Lincoln, & Mercury." That repeats its Ford line. It's the maker's own page error.
- b BlueDriver's website says 2011 and newer; its App Store text says 2012 and newer.

Two more scanners name makes, but we left them out of the table. ANCEL's VD500 is made for Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT only.*10 Autel lists makes the AL619 supports but doesn't say which get ABS and airbag reading, and its Amazon listings disagree on the cut-off year. One says "CANNOT support cars after 2015." Another says "It does not support 2018+ newer vehicles."*11, 12
OBDLink's Amazon listing claims more makes than OBDLink's own page. The listing says "Enhanced OEM Support for Ford, GM, Mazda, Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus/Scion, Honda, Hyundai, Kia." OBDLink's page lists only Ford, Mazda, Toyota and Nissan, so that's what we show.*6
Only 2 of 11 brands publish a make list
The others give a brand count, which doesn't tell you what a scanner reads on your car. Some of those counts change between the maker's page and the Amazon listing, or even within one page.

Our pick for most makes
BlueDriver Pro (Next-Gen)

Who it's for. Anyone whose make is on BlueDriver's list, and whose model year meets the limit for that make.
Why we picked it. Its maker lists ABS, airbag, SRS and TPMS reading for 11 of the 12 makes we checked, plus Mitsubishi from 2008. No other maker names more than 4. BlueDriver says there are no subscription fees or add-ons.*1
Flaws but not dealbreakers. Honda and Acura start at 2003, BMW and Mercedes at 2005, and Hyundai and Kia at 2011 or 2012, depending on which BlueDriver page you read. It needs your phone.*1
What owners report.
If you want a handheld
TOPDON ArtiDiag500 (AD500)

Who it's for. People who want a scanner with its own screen, and who will check their car in TOPDON's coverage tool first.
Why we picked it. TOPDON says it reads engine, transmission, ABS and airbag codes, with free lifetime updates. It costs $65.05 more than the BlueDriver.*2, 4
Flaws but not dealbreakers. TOPDON's page gives a count ("Vehicle Coverage 67+"), not a list, so the page alone can't tell you whether it reads ABS and airbag codes on your car.*4
What owners report.
- Owners say it is easy to set up and handles jobs like retracting an electric parking brake for a pad change.*22–24
- One owner says he chose it for its lifetime updates and no yearly fees.*24
- Some Amazon reviewers say it didn't read airbag (SRS) codes on their car, didn't connect, or didn't work on a Volvo.*22
How to check your car before you buy
- Find your make on the maker's own page, not the Amazon listing. Listings can add makes the maker doesn't list.
- Check the model year. BlueDriver's list starts some makes at 2003, 2005 or 2011.
- Run your exact car through the maker's lookup tool if it gives only a brand count.
Questions people ask
- Can any OBD2 scanner read ABS and airbag codes?
- No. A basic reader only reads the check engine light. ABS and airbag codes need a scanner whose maker supports your make. Of the 24 scanners we checked, 5 say they read engine codes only.
- Which scanner reads ABS and airbag codes on a Ford?
- BlueDriver and the OBDLink MX+ both list Ford on their makers' pages. The OBDLink EX reads Ford modules through FORScan on a Windows PC.
- Does BlueDriver read ABS and airbag codes on a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep?
- Maybe. BlueDriver's list includes Chrysler, but the line repeats its Ford text, an error on its own page, so check your car in BlueDriver's vehicle checker. On 2018 and newer models, clearing codes needs a tool registered with AutoAuth, and BlueDriver's page doesn't mention it.
- Why won't my scanner read my ABS light?
- Most often the scanner reads engine codes only, or its maker doesn't support ABS on your make or year. Check the maker's own list, not the brand count on the box.

Notes and sources
- Every cell is the maker's own statement, read on October 24, 2026.
- The makers' interactive lookup tools answer one car at a time and can't be read as static pages, so the table doesn't use them.
- FIXD's website blocked our reader, so FIXD isn't in the table. FIXD's pages we could read don't say which makes get ABS or airbag codes.
