About Pacific Parts Department
Pacific Parts Department tells you which car gear fits your car and whether the box is telling the truth. We read what makers and sellers claim, check it against the maker's own fine print and public records, and show our sources.
What we do, and what we don't
- We read the claims. For every product we cover, we save the exact wording from the maker's site and the Amazon listing, with the date.
- We match products to your car. Our tools use your engine size or VIN, decoded by the U.S. government's free vehicle database.
- We pick by a written rule. Every page states the rule before the pick, so you can check it.
- We show where every number comes from. Ratings are the makers' own and link to the page we read them on. What owners report comes from reviews we read, each one cited.
Who runs it
Erin Rose, founder and editor. Erin also founded CareCost, a healthcare pricing data company. Her work is checking claims against primary sources: spec sheets, manuals and official records. She is not a mechanic, so our pages report what makers, manuals and public data say, with a source for every number. Articles are bylined "Pacific Parts Department editors."
How we make money
We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links. As an Amazon Associate, Pacific Parts Department earns from qualifying purchases. We don't sell products, ads, sponsored posts or rankings.
Rules that keep our picks independent
- Brands can't pay to be included, ranked or picked.
- We pick by the rule on the page, not by commission. If the rule picks a product that earns us less, we still pick it.
- We don't accept free products in exchange for coverage.
- Every product we show is buyable today, with the price and the date we checked it.
