Get it if you drive a 4-cylinder or V6 car and want one box for a dead battery and a low tire.

Peak vs starting current. Peak is a split-second burst. Starting current is what the pack holds while the engine cranks, and that's what turns over a cold engine. GOOLOO prints both in the manual, but only the peak on the box. For comparison, GOOLOO's manual lists 800 A starting for its bigger GP4000. NOCO doesn't publish a starting current for its packs.*5, 11

The warranty. Count on 18 months. GOOLOO adds 6 more if you register and sign up for its newsletter; its "18+6+6" policy doesn't say what the last 6 need.*12, 13

How to use it, from GOOLOO's manual

  1. Check the charge. Press the power button. Start a car only with at least 2 of the 4 bars showing.*14
  2. Clean the terminals if they're crusty. Dirty or corroded terminals cut the pack's output.*15
  3. Push the cable's blue plug all the way into the pack, or it can melt. Then clamp red to the positive (+) post and black to negative (−).*14, 16
  4. Read the light on the clamp cable (table below). Solid green means start the engine.*17
  5. If it doesn't start, wait 2 minutes before trying again, and stop after 3 tries in a row so it doesn't overheat.*18
  6. After the start, let the pack cool for 30 minutes before you recharge it. Don't try to start a car while the pack is charging.*19, 20

Only press BOOST with the clamps on the right way. GOOLOO warns not to swap the clamps after pressing it.*21, 22

The tire pump

Pick a mode, set the pressure, and press the power button. The pump stops by itself at the pressure you set.*23 GOOLOO says it takes a Tesla Model 3 or Y tire from 30 to 36 PSI in about 1 minute, and fills a 205/55R16 car tire from flat to 36 PSI in under 7 minutes.*6, 24

A full charge gives up to 45 minutes of pumping.*6 Pumping uses the same battery you need to start the car, so top it up after a long session. GOOLOO publishes no duty cycle, so we can't say how long it can run before it needs a rest.

Truck tires: SUV mode stops at about 49 PSI. For load-range tires that need more, use free mode, which you set in kPa, up to 990 (about 144 PSI).*7 GOOLOO gives no fill time for big tires. For those, the GOOLOO A5 has a bigger pump and battery.

Upkeep: charging and storage

  • Recharge it every 3 months, even if you haven't used it.*1, 25
  • Buy or reuse a USB wall charger. One isn't in the box. On a 5 V, 2 A charger, a full charge takes 4 to 5 hours.*5, 10
  • Charge it only between 14 and 113°F. In winter, bring it inside to charge.*26
  • Don't leave it in a hot car for long. GOOLOO says heat above 140°F can make the cells swell.*27
  • As a phone charger: it can't charge a phone while starting a car, and it may switch off with earbuds or a watch, which draw too little power.*28, 29

Questions people ask

Can the GOOLOO A3 start a V8?
GOOLOO rates it for gas engines up to 9 L. Makers rate packs in different ways and no shared test sets these numbers, so for a V8 we pick the NOCO GB70, which NOCO rates for 8 L.
Does the GOOLOO A3 come with a charger?
It comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable, but no wall charger. A full charge takes 4 to 5 hours on a 5 V, 2 A charger.
Why is the light on my GOOLOO blinking green?
The car battery is too low for the pack to sense. Press the BOOST button on the cable, and start the car within 30 seconds once the light turns solid green.
Why does my GOOLOO A3 show a red light?
