Best jump starter for a diesel truck: Power Stroke, Duramax and Cummins
For a 6.7 L Power Stroke or Cummins, or a 6.6 L Duramax, get the NOCO Boost Pro GB150 ($299.95). NOCO rates it for diesels up to 7 L. Skip the GB70, even though Ford sells it for Super Duty trucks: it is rated only to 6 L.*1–3

We read the diesel ratings that NOCO and GOOLOO publish, and the jump-start pages of the Ram 2500/3500, Chevy Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and Ford Super Duty owner's manuals. Every rating is the maker's own, and we show where each one comes from.
The jump pack Ford sells for the Super Duty is rated below its 6.7 L diesel
Ford.com sells the NOCO GB70 as a Super Duty accessory for $295.00, and Ford offers it as a dealer-installed option on the 2026 Super Duty.*3, 6 NOCO rates the GB70 for diesels up to 6 L, and Ford Authority's report on the Ford option gives the same limit.*2, 6 The Power Stroke is 6.7 L, so it sits 0.7 L above that rating.
The GB70 is a good pack for a V8 gas truck; it is our V8 pick. On a 6.7 L diesel, NOCO's own chart points you to the GB150 (7 L) or bigger. It also costs less on Amazon ($139.99) than at Ford.com or on NOCO's site ($199.95).*4, 7, 8
Which battery to clamp on your truck
What each owner's manual says for jumper cables. With a jump pack, Ram and Ford both say to follow the pack maker's steps instead, so a NOCO pack goes by NOCO's rule below the table.*15, 16
| Truck | Which battery (jumper cables) | Black clamp (jumper cables) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ram 2500/35006.7 L Cummins | The driver-side battery. Clamp only to the positive post, never to the fuses.*9, 10 | A good engine ground (the manual's jumper-cable steps).*10 | 2025 Ram 2500/3500 owner's manual |
| Chevy Silverado 2500HD/3500HD6.6 L Duramax | The battery closer to the starter: passenger side, rear of the engine bay. Or the remote positive terminal, under a cover, if the truck has one.*11, 12 | The remote negative terminal, or a heavy, unpainted metal engine part.*11 | 2024 Silverado HD owner's manual |
| Ford Super Duty6.7 L Power Stroke | The manual shows two batteries but doesn't say which one to use.*13 | The jump start stud, and no other part of the truck.*14, 15 | 2025 Super Duty owner's manual |
With a NOCO pack, on any two-battery truck. Put both clamps, red and black, on the battery closest to the starter.*17 On a Chevy Silverado HD, that is the battery GM's manual names. On a Ford, this replaces the jump-stud step in the table, because Ford says a jump pack follows its maker's steps.*15
Ford owners. The manual doesn't name a battery. Some owners online say to use the passenger-side battery, citing an older Ford diesel supplement we couldn't find, so we can't confirm it. If you aren't sure which battery is closest to the starter, ask your dealer before you clamp.*18
12 volts only. Ram, GM and Ford all say to use a 12-volt source.*11, 16, 19 NOCO adds that if a vehicle's batteries are wired in series for 24 volts, no 12-volt Boost will work.*2
Our pick for diesel trucks
NOCO Boost Pro GB150

Who it's for. Owners of heavy-duty diesel pickups: the Power Stroke 6.7, Cummins 6.7 and Duramax 6.6.
Why we picked it. NOCO rates it for diesels up to 7 L and gas engines up to 9 L, from an 88 Wh battery.*1 NOCO also tells you how to use it on a two-battery truck, which Ram and Ford say to follow.*2, 17 The Amazon listing claims up to 80 starts per charge, and its 12-volt port can run a tire pump.*1, 2
Flaws but not dealbreakers. It covers a 6.7 L diesel by only 0.3 L, so there is no extra room for freezing mornings. NOCO's spec page lists it at 6.39 lb; the Amazon listing says 7.5 lb. A USB recharge takes about 7 hours, or 3 hours from a 12-volt outlet.*1 The warranty is 1 year.*20
What owners report.
- Owners say it starts big diesels, such as a 6.7 Cummins, and keeps working for years. One has used it for five years in Minnesota, down to -40°F.*21–23
- Owners like the heavy-duty cables.*21
- Some say it stopped charging past halfway or quit after a year or two. A Ford Super Duty forum owner says its battery "refused to charge after a couple of years."*21, 24
- On a very low battery it may need the manual override. One forum owner says he has to "bypass the safety often."*25
Step up
NOCO Boost X GBX155

Who it's for. Diesel owners who want more room above a 6.7 L rating, or who park outside in hard winters.
Why we picked it. NOCO rates it for diesels up to 8 L and gas engines up to 10 L, from a 99 Wh battery. That is 1.3 L above a 6.7 L diesel. It recharges in about 2.7 hours over USB-C and can charge a laptop at 60 watts.*5
Flaws but not dealbreakers. It costs $70.00 more than the GB150. The Amazon listing claims up to 18 starts per charge, far fewer than the GB150's 80. Even its 8 L is short of the extra 2 L we suggest for freezing weather on a 6.7 L diesel; no NOCO model has it. NOCO's spec page lists it at 5.82 lb.*5
What owners report.
- Owners say it starts big diesels, from an F-350 to semi-truck engines. One says it started a 15 L diesel with the battery as low as 4 volts.*26–28
- Its safety system can block a start on a very dead battery. One forum owner says you have to hold the power button down "for an extended period of time."*27, 29
- Several say it takes a long time to charge, and some say it won't hold a charge.*26, 30
How to jump-start a two-battery diesel truck
- Check the battery first. Don't jump a battery that is cracked, leaking or frozen. Wear eye protection, and keep sparks and flames away from the battery.*31
- Follow the pack maker's steps, not the jumper-cable steps. Ram and Ford both say so.*15, 16 For a NOCO pack, put both clamps on the battery closest to the starter.*17
- Turn the pack on and start the truck. On a cold engine, Ram and GM say to wait for the wait-to-start light to go out while the glow plugs warm up. Their manuals list this under normal starting, not under jump starting.*32, 33
- If it won't crank in the cold, add power. GM warns that in cold weather a single battery in another vehicle may not be enough for a two-battery diesel.*34 NOCO says that if the batteries are wired in parallel, you can use two Boost packs at once.*2
The competition
Why not the GOOLOO GP4000 ($79.99) or GT4000S ($99.99)? GOOLOO rates both for diesels up to 10 L, and its manuals list a 74 Wh battery.*35–38 NOCO rates its bigger 88 Wh GB150 for 7 L. The two brands rate their packs differently, and we found no standard test for these ratings, so we can't say which is right. We also found no GOOLOO steps for two-battery trucks, which Ram and Ford tell you to follow.
Why not the NOCO GB70 ($139.99)? NOCO rates it for 6 L diesel, short of a 6.6 or 6.7 L truck diesel. With the extra 2 L we suggest for freezing mornings, it suits diesels up to about 4 L.*7
| Jump starter | Diesel rating | Battery | Two-battery steps | Price |

Checks before you buy a jump starter for a diesel
- Use the diesel rating, not the gas one. NOCO's GB150 is rated 9 L gas but only 7 L diesel.*1 It must be at least your engine size: 6.6 or 6.7 L.
- Make sure it's 12 volts. Pickups take a 12-volt source. A 24-volt pack is only for trucks with batteries wired in series.*2
- Read the pack maker's steps for two batteries. Your truck's manual tells you to follow them.
Questions people ask
- What size jump starter do I need for a 6.7 Powerstroke?
- One rated for at least 6.7 L diesel. In NOCO's line that is the GB150 (7 L) or the GBX155 (8 L). The GB70 that Ford sells is rated only to 6 L.
- Is the NOCO GB70 enough for a diesel truck?
- For a diesel up to 6 L, yes, per NOCO. For a 6.6 L Duramax or a 6.7 L Cummins or Power Stroke, no. It is rated below those engines.
- Which battery do you jump on a Duramax?
- GM's HD manual says to use the battery closer to the starter, on the passenger side at the rear of the engine bay, or the remote positive and negative terminals if the truck has them.
- Which battery do you jump on a Cummins?
- Ram's manual says to jump off the driver-side battery, on the positive post only, never the fuses.
- Can I use a 24-volt jump starter on my pickup?
- No. Ram, GM and Ford all say to use a 12-volt source. NOCO says a 24-volt pack is only for vehicles whose batteries are wired in series.

Notes and sources
- Ratings, battery sizes and weights are the makers' own, read October 24, 2026. Clamp steps are quoted from each truck's owner's manual; we read the 2025 Ram 2500/3500, 2024 Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and 2025 Super Duty manuals. Older model years may differ.
- Our size rule: a maker rating at least as big as your engine, for your fuel. We suggest 2 L more for freezing weather; no pack we checked has that over a 6.7 L diesel, so we pick the cheapest that covers the engine and name the one with the most room. More on what size jump starter do I need.
