NOCO vs GOOLOO: is NOCO worth the extra money?

For most drivers, yes, but it's close. We pick the NOCO GB40 ($99.95) because it needs charging less often and its warranty terms are simpler. The GOOLOO A3 ($69.96) costs $29.99 less and has the bigger battery and longer warranty, so it's the better buy if price comes first.*1–5 Weighing the GB40 against the GOOLOO GP4000 ($79.99) instead? NOCO GB40 vs GOOLOO GP4000

For a 4-cylinder or V6 car, we'd still get the GB40. It needs a charge every 4 to 6 months, against every 3 for the GP4000. Its warranty reads the same everywhere, and NOCO calls its clamps spark-proof. Amazon shoppers bought 20,000 GB40s last month, against 3,000 GP4000s.*1, 3, 5, 6, 8

Where the GP4000 wins. It costs $19.96 less. GOOLOO's manual lists a 74 Wh battery, three times the GB40's 24 Wh. GOOLOO rates it for 10 L gas and 10 L diesel; NOCO rates the GB40 for 6 L gas and 3 L diesel. Its warranty is 18 months, against 12. And you can charge it down to 14°F; NOCO says to charge only above 32°F.*1, 5–7, 9–13

Get the GP4000 if price comes first, or if you drive a V8 or a diesel. The GB40 is rated too small for those, so compare the GP4000 with NOCO's GB70 instead, below. The two makers rate their packs differently, so the engine numbers can't be compared one to one.

Why we pick NOCO: less upkeep

  1. It asks less of you. A jump starter mostly sits in the car until the day you need it. NOCO says to charge its packs at least every 4 to 6 months, and that they hold 70% of their charge for up to a year. GOOLOO says to recharge every 3 months.*3, 4, 8
  2. Its terms are the same everywhere you read them. NOCO's warranty is 1 year on its warranty page, its support page and Amazon. GOOLOO's reads 18 months in the manual, "18+6+6" in its store policy and "up to 30 months" on product pages. The first extra 6 months needs you to register and sign up for its newsletter.*1, 6, 7, 14–17
  3. It covers the hard cases in writing. NOCO publishes steps for two-battery diesel trucks and calls its clamps spark-proof. We found no GOOLOO steps for two-battery trucks, and its manuals don't use the word spark-proof.*1, 18, 19

How we pick: the maker must state both an engine rating and a battery size, and both brands do. Then we weigh what matters most for a pack that sits in the car for months: how often it needs a charge and how clear the warranty is. NOCO wins those two. GOOLOO wins on price, battery size, warranty length and cold charging, so if those matter more to you, get the A3. Shoppers lean NOCO too: 20,000 GB40s last month, against 10,000 A3s.*5

What owners report

The most common praise and complaints from owner reviews on Amazon, retailer sites, forums and Reddit. Sources are listed at the end.

NOCO Boost Plus GB40

  • Owners say it starts cars and small trucks right away, and several have jumped dozens of vehicles with it.*38–40
  • Many say it holds its charge for a long time between uses.*38, 41
  • It can struggle with a V8 or a battery that is fully drained. A Ram forum owner says "It struggles to turn over a V8."*38, 42
  • Some Amazon reviewers say their unit stopped recharging or died within a year.*38

GOOLOO A3

  • Owners like that the pump fills tires fast and that one box handles a dead battery and a low tire.*43, 44
  • The most common complaint: some units stop working after a couple of months, or won't charge again.*43–45

GOOLOO GP4000

  • Owners say it is easy to use and holds a charge for months in the car.*46, 47
  • Some say it stopped holding a charge or died after a few uses.*46
  • One RV forum owner's first try failed on a battery that had dropped below 7.5 volts. The manual is online only, which one Walmart buyer disliked.*47, 48

Why people pick GOOLOO, and when they're right

"It's cheaper." True. The A3 costs $29.99 less than the GB40, and the GP4000 costs $60.00 less than the GB70. If price comes first, get the GOOLOO.*5

"It has a bigger battery." True. GOOLOO's manuals list 44.4 Wh for the A3, against 24 Wh on NOCO's spec page for the GB40.*10, 20 A bigger battery holds more charge. It doesn't tell you how well a pack starts an engine.

"It's rated for bigger engines." GOOLOO rates the A3 for 9 L gas; NOCO rates the GB40 for 6 L.*1, 2 The two makers rate their packs differently, and we found no standard test for these ratings, so the numbers can't be compared one to one. Both cover a 4-cylinder or V6.

"The warranty is longer." True: 18 months against 12, or up to 30 if you register and take the newsletter.*6, 7, 16

"It works in the cold." On paper, GOOLOO's range is wider. You can charge it down to 14°F; NOCO says to charge only above 32°F. Both list -4°F as the coldest they run.*12, 21–23

"The A3 has a tire pump." True. If you want one box for a dead battery and a low tire, see our air compressor pick; the A3 is it.

For V8s and diesels: NOCO GB70 vs GOOLOO GP4000

The same trade-off holds one size up. The GP4000 ($79.99) costs $60.00 less than the GB70 ($139.99) and has a bigger battery: 74 Wh in GOOLOO's manual, against 56 Wh on NOCO's spec page.*5, 9, 24 GOOLOO rates it for diesels up to 10 L; NOCO rates the GB70 for 6 L.*11, 25

For a V8 gas truck, the GB70 is our pick. For a 6.6 or 6.7 L diesel pickup, neither is ours: NOCO rates the GB70 below those engines, and we pick a pack whose maker publishes two-battery steps. See our diesel truck pick.

Other differences

Starting a completely dead battery. NOCO packs have a manual override: hold the button for 3 seconds to start a battery below 2 volts. NOCO warns that it turns off all safety features, and misuse voids the warranty.*13, 22 GOOLOO puts a BOOST button on the clamp cable that forces a start on a very low battery. Its manuals say to connect the clamps correctly first, and not to reverse them after pressing it.*19, 31, 32

Safety wording. NOCO calls its clamps spark-proof, with reverse polarity protection.*1 GOOLOO lists "10 key protections," including reverse connection protection, and a solid red light if the clamps are backward. Its manuals don't use the word spark-proof.*19, 33, 34

GOOLOO's listings disagree on upkeep. The GP4000's Amazon listing says to charge it every 2-3 months, and the GT4000S listing says regular charging "is not necessary." GOOLOO's manuals say every 3 months, so we use that.*8, 11, 35

Where they're sold. On Amazon, the NOCO packs are sold by Amazon.com and the GOOLOO packs by GOOLOO.*5 GOOLOO also lists its own store, Walmart, eBay and AliExpress.*16 NOCO sells on its own site, and Ford.com sells the GB70 for $295.00.*36, 37

Questions people ask

Is GOOLOO as good as NOCO?
On the makers' own specs, GOOLOO gives you a bigger battery, a longer warranty and a lower price. NOCO asks for fewer recharges and keeps its terms simpler.
Are GOOLOO jump starters safe?
GOOLOO lists 10 protections, including reverse connection protection, and shows a solid red light if the clamps are on backward. Its manuals don't claim spark-proof clamps, as NOCO does.
NOCO GB40 vs GOOLOO GP4000: which is better?
The GP4000 costs $19.96 less and has a much bigger battery (74 Wh against 24 Wh). The GB40 needs fewer recharges and is the one more people buy. For a V8 or diesel, the GP4000 is the closer match to the GB70.
Which has the better warranty, NOCO or GOOLOO?
GOOLOO's is longer: 18 months in the manual, and up to 30 months if you register and sign up for its newsletter. NOCO's is 1 year (2 in the EU and UK), and registering doesn't extend it.
How often should you charge a NOCO or GOOLOO jump starter?
NOCO says at least every 4 to 6 months. GOOLOO's manuals say every 3 months.

  • Every rating, battery size, temperature and warranty term is the maker's own, from spec pages, manuals and warranty pages read October 24, 2026.
  • NOCO lists temperatures in °C; we converted them (-20 to 50°C is -4 to 122°F; 0 to 40°C is 32 to 104°F). GOOLOO's A3 manual is image-only, so its numbers were read from the page images.
  • NOCO's warranty runs 2 years in the EU and UK. GOOLOO doesn't explain the second extra 6 months in its "18+6+6" policy.
  • What would change our pick: a test showing one brand starts engines its rating says it can and the other doesn't, or a change in which one Amazon shoppers buy most.
